Boxing

The boxing last night was surreal.

The crowd was a mixture of rough and even rougher, with lashings of suburban slapper for good measure. A BBQ had been set up inside the venue, because you can't fight without meat and beer and the swirling smoke and odorous burnt sausage added to the ambience.

The actual fights varied, from demonstration matches between some beginners to full-on fists of fury action.

The beginners are scared to hit almost as much as be hit.

The good fights were definitely educational from the perspective of a student of the fistic arts.

Important lessons:
  • Move. And move more. and keep moving.
  • Pressure wins everytime. Breaks the opponent's rhythm.
  • Throw more than one punch at a time.
  • You only need to land one good punch.
It wasn't as scary as you would imagine. The crowd was much more intimidating than the idea of getting in the ring.

My trainer's fighter won quite convincingly. He asked me if I though I would fight. And I said 'Very definitely yes'.

By the end of the year ...
