Ack, you just mentioned 'All Things To All Men,' which may be one of my favourite songs of all time (next to 'Bachelorette' by Bjork) and now my favourite web comic of all time. I think you're the boy version of me. 'Cept you play drums and I imagine sparrows in productions of 'Oliver Twist.'
Ooooh ... spooky. You have to come to trivia now ...
Do you remember that episode of Seinfeld with Janeane Garofalo where she is the girl version of Jerry? And they ended up not be able to stand eachother?
Yeah, it won't be like that at all. You know, that was a whole critique of 80s narcissism and a lack of self reflection. We're both well-rounded, well-adjusted individuals.
It's one of my all time favourite songs too. One of those ones I can just leave on repeat. Like 'Such Great Heights' ... and 'Heartbeats' ...
Jose Gonzalez 'Heartbeats' or The Knife 'Heartbeats'? I have both albums but I think I buck the trend by preferring the original. As an aside, Jose Gonzalez is playing the Athenaeum in July.
I personally relate to Hipster Scout Girl, even though I'm not all that hip. Truly. I'm wearing no black today at all, and my hair is its natural colour.
Yeah, I'm thinking of going to see Jose. Dunno. Have to see if I can drag someone along. You going?
And I like the original too. I have a theory that a really good song is always good ... it's actually quite hard to fuck up a great song. Dodgy cover bands are proof of that.
No black? OMG! I thought there were laws about wearing black in winter in Melbourne.
I'm going. The Jose Gonzalez/Mates of State/Holly Throsby shows are part of my key adulthood performance indicator month. I've challenged myself to find one (1) date for at least one of those shows, an honest-to-god date where I hadn't shagged the person beforehand. I've only been on one 'date' before, and that was to a Linux user's group meeting, so it hardly counts.
(p.s - thanks for defending my more colourful autumn palette, Tamimodo)
(p.p.s - if both you kids are going can I refer to both of you as my dates? Then I can look hard pimpin, straight thuggin on the annual adulthood performance report)
my word verification was just boobj (i don't know how to do pictures in this little comment box). Is it trying to tell me something> I'm quite sure i don't need a boobjob.
And Rach, i'd be happy to be your date. I know what you mean about the dating thing: i actually don't think i've ever been on a "proper" date.
oh and as for the autumnal colours... i almost always wear black, but today I too chose colours! It must be that "i'm happy because it's the last day of autumn and tomorrow's winter" vibe. You think?
I dunno, based on the ticketmaster site it looked like Jose tickets were still available.
I've actually been wearing less black since I moved to Melbourne. And more heels, stockings and lipstick. I don't know what it is, suddenly I've decided to be a Lady with Lady's Things. Although it should be said that today I chose to pair a rather saucy low cut black shirt with loose ripped jeans with a hole, perplexingly, in the crotch. So the world can see my lady's things, I guess.
OK. I'll keep trying. How many tickets am I getting? Did you need one Rach? Ticketmaster hates me ... it's busy now due to an 'Event'.
Every now and then I decide that Black Is No Longer My Thing and I go out and buy a bunch of non-black clothes that I wear once before freaking myself out and heading back to the safety of black t-shirt and generally, denim shorts. Although my new several pairs of jeans have changed my life. Not freezing cold, for a start.
I have a friend who is exceedingly well groomed (he even only wears shirts with french cuffs) and I often wish I could keep that together ... but I am lot like PigPen from Charlie Brown ... I scruff up within moments.
I too go through stages of buying coloured stuff. I always come back to the safety of black. I actually wrote a post about it back in february or march sometime. I just feel comfortable in it. Occasionally i whip out something brighter, but i LIKE black. OK???
Every now and then I also try to be one of those excessively groomed people. I'm not quite sure why. I absolutely have no chance in hell of ever pulling it off though. I'm messy. I just am. Scruffy is definitely cuter, I decided. No use trying to be something i'm not.
I had a look last night at tickets Toby, and I think they are sold out. You can look for tickets, but then it doesn't come up with any :( Maybe worth ringing ticketek? I don't know. I'm not a doctor.
Ah, well, that's disappointing. There's always Mates of State and the accoustic goodness of Holly Throsby.
My only real hangover from growing up in a military family is a prediliction for neatness. My mum was one of the first ever female officers in the RAAF and was always perfectly turned out - shoes polished, uniform ironed or dry cleaned, hair neat. It was important to her, so that kind of stuff is now important to me. My shirts are ironed and my coats are dry cleaned. I feel a bit guilty about it, actually. I worry I descend into preciousness, but it's one of those comfort things.
My Cons, however, are completely disgusting. They horrify my mum and satisfy me.
Oh, and gig at the NSC tonight. Justin Grounds. I have no idea who that is, but the accordionist (Buffy the Accordion Player! how good is that?) I met last week is playing support and recommended it.
I am always envious of people who can be so neat, Rach.

And Cat and Girl! And boy. I relate to him.
God I am verbose when I am seedy.

I guess technically it's not winter yet. SO Rach is well within her rights not to be wearing black just yet.
Who's going to Jose?
It's not winter?
Oh yeah. It feels like it's been winter for ages.
I'll got to Jose if you do.

Ha Ha! Sure. I'm in.
I need more music friends.
Happy to provide written feedback if required for your annual report.
Do I like Mates of State and Holly Throsby?
And LUG definitely doesn't count as a date. How the hell did you end up there?
Oh ... I got the Mates of State jukebox working.
Awesome!
Have you got your ticket already?
Only seated tickets left ... I can buy them if you guys are in.
Tam?
Shit ... it may have sold out!
I'm in. Failing that, Mates of State. They're married and adorable.
I haven't got a ticket yet. I'm in! Oh wait, when is it?

My mum still acts surprised when I am in Black. It's been 14 years, mum!
Yeah, it looked like there were tickets, but then ... nothing. Ticketmaster phones are all busy. Wonder what went on sale this morning?

tickets for the Ashes series went on sale this morning. I'd say that's why Ticketek's been so busy. I'd like to go to Mates of State too though.
I always have my coats dry-cleaned - i hate it when they lose shape. hehe. Everything else is messy though :-p
Ah. Stupid cricket.
I'm definitely in for Mates and Holly.
