Wednesday Zeitgeist

I know it's not Wednesday. Yesterday was not a fun day for me, too hungover, lack of sleep, half an hour in VicRoads losing my mind and desperate for a coffee, which did, however, have the distinct feature of involving me in said very bad state having a photo taken for my license, which will serve as a permanent reminder of the day on which I think I may have hit the bottom of a nasty downward spiral of existential terror and alcoholic avoidance, caused by irreversible and permanent pyschic damage at the hands of She-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named*. I am of course being melodramatic, this too shall pass and I feel better already.
  • How far underwater will you be when the Apocalypse comes?
  • Check out Drumming Speed competitions. I think you need to be a metal drummer to be a real contender.
  • World Mapper "a collection of world maps, where territories are re-sized on each map according to the subject of interest".
  • I like the Container Ports map - "There are more shipping containers loaded and unloaded off the coasts and rivers of China, than travel to or from all other territories put together."
  • The Arcade Fire are a band that I just can't get into, as much as I know I should.
  • There should be rules about returning text messages. Perhaps a universal code for 'Get fucked, loser' rather than an absence of messaging. I studied communications theory as it applies to networks so I get all strange if I don't have confirmation packets.
  • Not to mention the giving out of numbers if you're not going to text.
  • Or the reply to text and then not reply to the reply. What kind of message is that?
  • I had forgotten how cool Pandora is. If you want some of my most excellent channels, let me know.
  • Speaking of which, I really like Surf Music especially The Blue Stringrays ...
  • I would love to be in a surf music band. That would be heaps of fun.
  • I know it makes me a fucking hippy, but The Dynamind Technique really works, and this week would have been much worse without it.
  • Godspeed You Black Emperor. OMG WTF!? They are the best. Really. You need to hear them.
  • Going to see Living Color tonight. Which should be most excellent. One of the best drummers around.
  • And it helps to think that life could always be worse. I could own a rubber foot with a built-in: "life-like luscious tight, ribbed vagina ... Special talc is included to keep your foot nice and soft. 4 1/4 inches in length." See: there's always further to fall.

  • On a less angsty note I met some awesome people crashing an art show on Tuesday night.

* Who I saw for the first time in months in the city with some guy on Sunday. Which was nice.

yeah, that DMT thing seemed kind of good, i didn't even think about any problems i might be having and it still made me feel better.

i thoroughly agree about the text messaging bizzo. i treat a message like a call or an email - i reply even if it's to stave someone off. but even among my friends, i'm the minority, as most of them think that replying to someone irritating is optional. but if someone has your number, odds are you gave it to them and you should face up to the annoying ones. it's pretty gutless to leave someone hanging - it's a person and they deserve to be dealt with respectfully.

i've just realised that it's possible you mentioned it because you are ignoring texts, in which case, i've committed a terrible faux-pas by berating you on your own blog.

anyway, thanks for the picture of the vagina shoe, and glad to hear you're feeling better...

Me too! I have them on my Itunes and no matter how many times I stick them on my ipod, I just keep skipping their songs.
Skipping right over to The Trews.

DMT is wicked. I am a bit addicted to it.

I never ignore texts. I may be slack in replying, but you know, will eventually get there. And yes, if you give out the bloody number, you should deal with it. Years ago I met this girl, seemed nice, we exchanged numbers, I called. And nothing. Just rude.

My housemate loves The Arcade Fire so I have promised to try again.

text messages blessing or curse?
blessing: allow you to communicate without worrying about stuttering, voice breaking, mental blanking, not saying the thing you really want to say, allow for structure and perfectly delivered jokes.
curse: allow people to fuck with your head by writing things they too shit scared to say to your face, temptation when out and drunk to text crushes too strong and cringeworthy for months, dont have tone so girl who u are on rocks with takes everything as sarcastic or negative or derisory,

but ultimately they are good cos they are cheap and i am a cheap skate.

good to meet you toby, see you round like a circular text message

i have friends who would text back & forth all day.

i just can't be arsed. it's a simple step for me from answering the phone. i do it if i feel like it, if i hear it, if my phone is charged, if i have credit, if i have it with me, and if i'm not busy or otherwise occupied.
so many if's!

i'd hope (maybe naively considering all your comments) people wouldn't assume it was a peprsonal insult/snub
i just don't feel obliged to be contactable all the time...

I liked the Arcade Fire 'til I found Wolf Parade, then I realised that particular niche in my music collection was well and truly filled.

I need to go to more art openings. They're heaps rad fun.
