Blogging reminds me of high-school.
In high-school I was in the music/swampy crowd* - in a school renowed for its Rugby Union prowess, and its Polled Hereford Stud farm. If you played football you were instantly in the A-Crowd. If you played music you where instantly outcast and deemed a 'faggot'. Which is strange, because the musos didn't spend their time in short shorts wrestling other men and then all clean off with a hot 'n' steamy group shower. And in fact, the only reason to play music is to pick up girls**.
Now I am older, and wiser(?), I want to conform, I want to belong.
So yes, I want to be part of the blogger A-Crowd and join in all the Black Rebel Activities.
How do I sign up?
Is there a hazing ritual I have to go through?
Do I need ideas? I have some good ones, but they're all geeky and/or involve alcohol ... Blood Bowl and beer anyone?
* At my 10 year (dear god!) reunion I was still remembered as the 'druggo' despite the fact I got drunk way less than your average football jock and did not actually smoke pot till I went to uni.
** Your mileage may vary. And of course, substitute the gender/species of your choice to pick up. In my case, girls. I have been in many bands but have never ever had a pick up as a direct result of the music thing. Maybe it's a drummer thing. Maybe I have socialisation problems. Actually, never really had many pick ups, as such (one, I think, and that went on (and off) for five years) .

dear me, did you go to downlands? i fear we may end up knowing the same people *shudders*.
and i know what you mean about blogging. this is my first foray and i've so far felt all the familiar sensations of high school - should i say something? what will i say? will they like it? no-one liked it! but it's also exciting for the same reason, when you find a little point of connection with someone. it seems to bring out all the same insecurities but bizarrely, all the same brash confidence.
by the way, swampy is the funniest, most ridiculous word! i'd forgotten all about it but i love it! what did it even mean? i'm connecting it vaguely with black clothes and bad metal. i wonder if its a queenslandism...
Downlands! Oh yes. Was it the COWS that gave it away?
What a terible place.
Blogging is like high-school from a distance ... none of the actual hassle of interacting directly with people.
Swampy was linked with the black clothes in our case, I think ... eventually goth took over as the term of choice.
We were also called 'mods'.
