At what point did I suddenly take up smoking again after many many years not smoking?
I smoked all through high-school and first couple of years of uni, and gave up maybe nearly 10 years (!) ago.
So smoking again is strange. I found a pouch of old tobacco in the house and started smoking it about 3 weeks ago ... and then started hiding behind the cigarettes when out practicing my new gregarious persona and meeting bloggers. And out alone at gigs, roll the cigarette, focus, comfort, stand outside and reflect ... smoking alone is better than just standing alone.
And now I really want a smoke.
But I've given up. Again.

Hi Toby,
I came here from RYWHM, so this is the first time I've seen your blog. If I may, I'll comment on several posts at once?
1) You mentioned you were in a band, yet on your blog you have no mention of the band. Can you add a link, or at least tell me the name of them. Living in "The Sticks" I like to vicariously live out other people's rock and roll dreams.
2) Welcome to the world of motorcycling. It is a wonderful world. No matter what your friends tell you, Triumphs are good bikes (that's just my little pecadillo!)
3) You mentioned your Vic 20 earlier. I had a Commodore 128 because it was 'better' than a Commodore 64. Did anyone ever do anything with the 128 mode other than switch it straight to C64 mode?
I know who to blame.

1) The band is called Kubric. There is a link, but it is subtle because I don't like to toot my horn*. I have groupies who do that for me**.
2) Thanks. I am excited. I just went and looked at gear ... pretty expensive, but figuring it's better not to skimp on protection, and also a proper leather jacket looks fucking cool!
3) I had a friend who had the 128 and yep, switch straight to 64 mode. He had the disk drive though, which was awesome. I only had the tape player which would take forever to load games.
* Not true
** Patently not true.
Bonnie:
I don't know who you could possibly mean.
I blame my parents.
For cheap but good quality leathers, have a look at Mars in Elizabeth St. They'll sort you out with everything, from a very cool Brando style jacket with elbow, back and shoulder pads, to a slightly less subtle set of chaps, a leather overcoat and a studded vest. They are the official leather suppliers of MC944 (www.mc944.com)
I had a listen to your band. Sounds pretty good. I'm getting a bit of The Pixies from your singer, but a bit more melodic/less noise rock. Good work. (and I'm usually a miserable bastard when it come to complimenting other bands!)
you should totally get the chaps.
i'm smoking again too after a long hiatus.
okay it wasn't that long.
stupid nictoine.
Leather jacket I was just looking at is $850. It looks *fucking* hot though. If I do say so myself. Will need to check Mars out. Thanks for the tip.
Not sure if chaps are really my thing. But you know ... if you've got it, wrap it in leather and flaunt it. So when I get 'it', I will parade in my brand spanking new chaps just for you, KP.
And comparing the band to the Pixies is great! Awesome. A bunch of people have said we sound like Jebediah (yuck!).
I too am a smoker.
Had no problem quitting while I was knocked up, they made me sick as a dog.
But now, on account of the kidlets, I don't smoke in the house or in the car. So, just outside.
Maybe three a day.

Smoking is evil, and leather bike jackets are HOTTTTTTTTTT.
